Caring For Our Elderly!
August 15, 2022
It Only Makes Sense To Comfort Our Aged Community!
People are living longer than before. Advancements in medical technology has allowed 4-6 generations to all be alive at once. What a great time to be alive and know that you can spend more time with your elders than ever before. It used to be an awesome sight to see a person reach the age of 100 years old! As wonderful as this news is, it comes with a few drawbacks. I’ve spoken with many elders and some of what I’ve found is hard to hear. Some of those in their 80’s has children in their 60’s or greater who do to sickness, immobility or death are unable to care for their parents, leaving the parents in assisted or full time nursing homes, with limited visits and in some cases not much hope. Due to their ages, some of their friends that they went to school with, shared school memories and long friendships with have also passed away, leaving an emotional vulnerability as they don’t feel that they have too many people left that they can reminisce with. It can be easy to feel alone and left behind in these cases. Keeping in mind that we all are here because of our elders in our lineage. It seems only right that we look out for those that now have challenges looking out for themselves. L.I.F.T. R&R has since 2019 provided care packages for the senior citizens at North Park Nursing Home in McKinney, we have committed to ensuring that they have the basic supplies that they lack if family is unable to provide it for them. Each year they receive a care package for the springtime and the wintertime. We put on a Christmas Event for them called “A Senior’s Holiday”. Each resident gets gifts and the opportunity to share words of wisdom with a generation that’s in dire need of just that. The tears that flow when they speak as they say no one has asked them in a long time for their thoughts and it means the world to them that they feel relevant and important. Let’s all do our part to care for our elderly because when we were too young to care for ourselves; they did!!
